“In This World You Belong” is a single by American singer-songwriter and RnB vocalist ‘Alicia Lena’, which marks the twenty-second official lead single from the artist in her sixteen year career in the music industry. Written in October 2025, the track follows previous single “Beacon of Hope” (feat. Ryan Ross Hernandez, Jadyn Ghalen, Layla) as the second single to be taken from her next full length project which has now been confirmed to be titled “Gospel” with a tentative 2026 expected release date. This latest offering see’s Alicia expand on the musical tone of her previous album “New Light” (2024) with a soul influence that is prevalent in both the music soundscape of the album as well as the albums lyrical content relying on theme’s of empowerment and faith, combined with human stories of struggle and pain which are in keeping with the traditional and simplistic title of the upcoming album “Gospel”.
The track continues Alicia’s exploration of introspective themes while embracing a more pronounced soul and blues influence that has been showcased on her previous studio album as well as the preceding lead single for the album. These themes were hinted at by Alicia herself in the build up to the release of this latest single,
“I definitely think that I found a purpose for my voice and creative outlet on the last album and I see this record as a continuation of those themes and ideas. At this stage in my career, I want to use my voice to tell human stories of many aspects of life, some will highlight positivity and the importance of faith and others will tell stories of struggle, heartache and inequality.”As the second single from her upcoming album “Gospel”, the track signals the clearest indication of the artistic direction for the album, positioning it as an overtly faith-inspired project with Alicia positioning herself as a comforting established voice in the music industry, effectively placing a hand on the shoulder of the listener and allowing her voice to help them navigate through the tribulations of various mid-life issues like parenthood, legacy, personal growth and various societal issues. The track will be released as a CD Single, Digital Download and 7” Single as well as being made available to Weekly Airplay via FREEDOM. Clocking in at around four minutes and thirty-nine seconds, the song blends RnB, soul, pop, adult contemporary and gospel elements which reflects Alicia’s recent output. The track will be officially released on February 28, 2026.
Song Commentary;Quote:“When I wrote “In This World You Belong”, I had already written a handful of the material that would be included on the next album, so the general tone and feel of the album had already manifested itself naturally. I felt like this song just fit perfectly into that material and for me, not trying to write a single or a pop song is the best and probably only way to truly approach songwriting for me, these days. During those first three years in my career, it was a case of creating an album around four or five obvious singles. But now, it’s a completely different process where we create the album and try to figure out if there’s any potential singles throughout that album, usually or hopefully there tends to be two or three that naturally lend themselves to that format. This one definitely stood out to me as a potential single, partly because of the flow of the song, it’s not too overly expansive lyrically, it tries to deliver a meaning and message in as few words as possible but I think it truly cuts to the point and does so with a lot of positivity and self-empowerment.
Like most songs I write, I was sat at my piano at home late one evening with a glass of wine after everyone had gone to bed. The house was quiet which only ever occurs during that late night period and that kind of silence always makes me feel reflective on the life that we’ve built. I’m often thinking a lot about balance, motherhood, career, faith and expectations, all of that sort of thing.
We always put a pressure on ourselves to have the answers, to solve everything and to be the thing that everybody needs at any given time. And it’s only in that silence that you really slow things down and take stock, which is where I realised that sometimes there aren’t always clear answers, there isn’t always right or wrong or some perfect fix. Sometimes the most accurate thing you can do is just breathe and accept where you are and not worry so much about hitting goals or worrying about whether you’re doing enough in your career. So to me, this song felt deeply introspective, deeply self-reflected. But I know that this track also has a universality to it and I hoped that it’s message could be an encouraging one.
The first line, “I savour those moments, the quiet and the loud.”, came almost immediately, without thinking really. That’s the heart of the song. Life isn’t just the big milestones and achievements, it’s the small evenings, the shared laugher, even a little of the chaos. To me, it felt like I wrote those verses almost like journal entries. While the lyric, “Each sip of wine, a memory arises.” Is very literal. I was thinking about those nights with close friends and family, where stories start flowing and suddenly you’re reminded of how far you’ve come. Memories of those that aren’t with you anymore. Those simple moments are the ones that reassure me and ground me that I’ve done enough and I’m doing enough because I’m surrounded by love and joy.
Becoming a mother changed the way I look at everything. The line about the sunrise and a child’s smiling face, isn’t just poetic licence or exaggeration. It’s completely a real reflection of things. It’s that instant reminder of purpose. I wanted the song to feel like that feeling if I could manage that, steady, warm, reassuring.
Musically, I kept it simple on purpose. But I guess you could say that about a lot of what I create. I don’t like too much going on musically because I feel like the power is in the tones of the piano keys, the vocal delivery and the lyrical content. I didn’t want to hide behind instrumentation or production. There’s a quiet drum beat that just ticks away underneath the track and a subtle rhythmic guitar part that runs throughout. Aniyah delivers some beautiful harmonies with myself on parts and we brought in the Angel City Chorale to give it that lift during the final section of the track but I’m always hesitant on overwhelming my songs with too much going on that it distracts from the underlying message.
Vocally I made the conscious effort to hold back in parts, I wanted the whole thing to sound pretty conversational. I think the rise vocally in the song comes from the Chorale rather than myself, I didn’t want my vocal to change too much from that calm conversational style. It’s not to say it was the right choice, but when you’ve written something yourself, you generally back yourself in knowing what to add or take-away from the whole thing. Overall, it’s a track that came from a very personal place, so I wanted to ensure that it kept that intimacy. I hope it’s a song that people can listen to on a hard day and it be enough to help ease their burden a little and alter their frame of mind slightly. Hopefully.”

Background;The track comes following a period of renewed creative momentum for Alicia Lena, having taking an almost ten year sabbatical from the music industry with the exception of two soundtrack singles in 2015 and 2016. With an unprecedented gap of around twelve years between studio albums, she has recently gone on a resurgence in the 2020’s as a fully active artist once more adding further accolades and accomplishments to her legacy in the process. Following on from 2024’s comeback album “New Light”, its string of hit singles and bookending Las Vegas concert residency, Alicia informed fans that she wouldn’t plan on leaving it too long before the next album.
She teased the beginning of the next project with “Beacon of Hope” (feat. Ryan Ross Hernandez, Jadyn Ghalen, Layla) which garnered widespread praise, critical and commercial success as a number one hit single as well as recently winning ‘Collaboration of the Year’ at the 2026 UMA Awards. However, following its release in January 2025, the rest of 2025 went without a follow-up and very little talk of what’s to come with the exception of the occasional studio photo posted to her official social media accounts. It’s since been confirmed that Alicia has spent a large portion of 2025 in the studio working on the next album, opting to put complete focus on recording the majority of the album rather than combine studio time with dropping promotional material for the upcoming record. It’s believed that the record is now finished and that 2026 will see Alicia commit to the build to the album expected later in the year. This will include a promotional run that includes singles, interviews and performances along the way, something that Alicia has generally kept quite minimal over the years.
“In This World You Belong” was written in October 2025 during the recording sessions for the album at her home studio Fénix Home Recording Studios in Phoenix, Arizona before being mixed and mastered at Record Plant in Los Angeles, California. The track was created from the personal viewpoint by Alicia Lena on her own journey that has led to motherhood with a focus on balance and spiritual grounding which are core elements to Alicia’s own personality and personal mantras for a happy life. Elements that have become more apparent in her most recent work which has occurred since becoming a mother for the first time in 2018. Having previously spoken about the challenges of navigating family life and a high level music career, she wanted to find a way to incorporate those conversations into song form which led to Alicia focussing the writing process with an emphasis on authenticity and emotional clarity.
The track is built around a gentle piano structure which gradually expands to incorporate backing vocals reminiscent to contemporary gospel choirs or choral sections. The verses are intimate and conversational, both by intention via the songs lyrical flow but also by Alicia’s soft vocal delivery being slow and thoughtful throughout as she details moments of reflection in lines like,
“Each sip of wine, a memory arises” which is centred around the grounding presence of family life, shared with both family and close friends that have become such. The chorus delivers the songs primary message of reassurance and faith, encouraging listeners to
“Ride with the moment” and
“Take it all in your stride.” in order to trust that they’re doing okay. Playing as a reassuring voice to those young parents that struggle to see that they’re doing a good job.
