October 14, 2010 - Dubuque, Iowa - Diamond Jo Casino 
The stage goes dark for about a minute before three shots of light shoot up from the ground to show Alicia Lena standing in the centre of the stage in a silver cage. The cage is on wheels and is slowly moving to the front of the stage, Alicia is standing inside of it with a microphone in her hand.
“HOW YOU GUYS DOING, IT’S GREAT TO BE BACK, LET’S HAVE SOME FUN.”
She begins into the first song called Party-Starter, the audience are in good mood and singing along enthusiastically. She’s moving around in the cage and singing furiously, trying to break through the cage, towards the end of the song she finally breaks through the cage and as she jumps out onto the stage begins into a dance routine, she steps to the edge of the stage and directs the microphone into the audience for them to sing the final line of the song. The crowd are certainly up for it tonight.
As the cage is removed from the stage Alicia makes her way over to her piano, “Now I’m back in my comfort zone, this song is called We Ain’t Gonna Grow Old Together.” she begins the jazz bar room esque piano intro before it suddenly changes pace to sound more like a Stevie Wonder composition.
She sits at the piano throughout as the crowd sing along with her, midway through the song she steps from the piano to move closer to the audience before finishing the song.
She steps up to the centre stage, takes a hold of the microphone and bellows, “Can anybody/Find Me/Somebody To Love.” to huge cheers before running across to the piano and playing the queen classic, Somebody To Love. The crowd sing along to every note and she continue’s to smile throughout the performance and is clearly loving being back onstage, she’s kept the theatrics to a minimum and has just let the songs speak for themselves tonight.
Back to the centre stage for New Developments and she uses one of the backing singers as a foil, acting out the lyrics as you’d expect in a music video, pushing the male backing singer to the edge of the stage before stepping back and encouraging the audience to clap along.
“I wanna hear you scream.” she shouts, as the chorus kicks in, back onto the piano and she plays the rest of the song out with such ease.
The change of pace in the set tonight has been surprising, we’re only four songs into the performance and already you’ve had a mixture of pop star theatrics and soulful artist. Her roots lie in Blues and Soul music, from Motown to the likes of Sam Cooke and More Than You’ll Ever Know begins, borrowing the intro to the classic A Change Is Gonna Come which later features in a medley.
She plays the piano with such ease and manages to continue to entertain the audience while sitting down, a skill not too many people can pull off but she’s achieved the adoration of the audience so far.
As the song finishes she kicks straight into the next song and out walks a guitarist, a completely unknown guitarist to fill in for the part Ryan Ross Hernandez played on her most recent single Rooftops. She moves away from the piano for the whole song and performs the song in very close proximity to her guitarist, she sings into the microphone while leaning onto her guitarist and then the two share the mic for the chorus, the extremely catchy chorus.
And it quickly moves into the next song, Clichés Come Easy with a very rock-esque guitar intro, something unlikely for tonight, this is a new song, rarely heard before but it’s extremely fast paced and fiery, she stands on the centre stage moving her head and her body as if she was front woman of a rock band, and although it’s her best impression of Rockstar she should really stick to what she does best. And with the final sound of the guitar, the show is over, a short set yes but entertaining nevertheless.
The lights go down before Alicia has left the stage and within half a minute, she returns to the darkened stage and sits at her piano and plays a very intimate two songs, first up is the medley, “This one is for Max and Lucy, you’ll never be forgotten.” Stand By Me/My Girl/Change Is Gonna Come bringing of course the mobile’s and lighters raised in the air. The crowd sing along with quite a bit of emotion and it’s choked up a vast majority of the audience.
And for the final song of the night out comes the guitarist who performed with her on Rooftops, an acoustic guitar this time and they both sit at the front of the stage to perform another intimate song, this version of New York Love Affair is almost unrecognisable from the original featuring Stephanie Fierce, she’s changed things up quite a bit and has surprised quite a few spectators but she has been a success tonight.SETLISTParty-Starter
