BACKGROUND & INFORMATION

Ambition is the debut album from American boyband The Stat Nerds. It is set for release on May 31, 2026 in conjunction with Studio 60 Records and heart&sleeve as part of the latter's 'REVIVED' series. The Stat Nerds formally announced the options to pre-order and pre-save the album on May 28th, 2026 alongside the release of "Casual Love", the final single to be lifted from the project. "Ambition" has underwent many delays and reworkings since its initial 2014 announcement. This is largely in part due to numerous legal issues that the band have faced in the quest to officially release their music in a commercial capacity. While many details have remained undisclosed, one publicly known fact was the lengthy trademark battle which the members and former managers were embroiled in over the group's name. A ruling in November 2025 granted ownership back to Bodkin, Holmes, Hudson and Shaw, respectively. Working with their long-time label Studio 60 Records and entertainment company heart&sleeve to finally facilitate a release for the album which saw over a decade's worth of delays, it was agreed that "Ambition" would finally receive a digital release in May 2026 accompanied by new artwork, remastered audio and physical copies arriving further down the line.

Plans for a debut album were initially conceptualised as far back as 2011, with the band signing to 'Shooting Aces Records'. Under the tentative title 'Want To Be', the band kickstarted the album era with the release of their debut single 'Going On'. A relative success, the track peaked at #6 on the Chart Heat Hot 20 Singles, respectively, and garnered momentum for the budding group. The album was suddenly shelved, however, when the group's label Shooting Aces unexpectedly folded and closed its doors for good. Despite this setback, the group continued to write and record while shopping for another record label.

In 2012, The Stat Nerds signed a highly published record deal with Studio 60 Records amidst the "boyband boom" of the early 2010's, spearheaded by who were deemed as the group's commercial rivals, Weekend. The Stat Nerds returned to the studio and began to work on a second incarnation of their debut studio album, now going by the title, 'Ambition'. The era kicked off in a similarly successful and controversial fashion with new leading single 'Ready For The Weekend' giving the band their first #1 single while also receiving polarising reviews due in part to its lyrical content seemingly being a "diss" towards Weekend. Ironically, Jerry Holmes would later marry and divorce Billy Khan. With the album pencilled in for an early 2013 release, a second single followed in the form of 'Want Ur Love'. The upbeat pop track featured Sophia of GirlSpice and was a commercial and critical success, giving the group their second #1 single. The album, however, would not see a release that year.

'Ambition' was cut from Studio 60's 2013 release line-up with many at the label claiming to be "unsatisfied" with the material presented thus far, believing that the group needed "stronger hits" to follow on from the two back-to-back chart toppers released earlier. 2013 and 2014 saw Brian, Christopher, Dennis and Jerry return to the studio and overhaul the record while simultaneously boosting their public profiles as individuals. Christopher Hudson embarked on a highly successful stint on Celebrity Big Brother 4, finishing in second place and becoming one of the season's breakout stars. It was during this period away from the promotional cycles of the group that Hudson decided to hone in on the craft of song writing, simultaneously penning new material for the band's record as well as dabbling in writing for others. Hudson has since gone on to become an acclaimed and awarded writer, penning numerous #1 Chart Heat hits for various acts.

2014 saw the release of promotional single 'This Life', serving as a free 'gift' to fans while also testing the waters with their new material. The 'Ambition' era was fully underway again later in the year with the release of the then-new leading single 'Out With A Bang'. Following his stint on CBB4, the Hudson-penned track ushered in a larger audience and propelled the group back to #1 on Chart Heat. It is currently their biggest-selling song to date. Official artwork for 'Ambition' was revealed in 2015 while several new songs which were intended to be on the album received a live premiere at Fall Fest 2015. Despite the success and continuous promotional campaign, the album would be pushed back yet again.

From late 2015 onward, The Stat Nerds would be involved in numerous legal battles against former label figures and old management teams in regards to the rights to their band name and usage of material recorded under the existence and validity of certain contracts. Although full details have never emerged, several members had expressed their frustration at things going on "behind the scenes" throughout the mid to late 2010's across interviews and social media accounts. For the best part of the remainder of the decade, The Stat Nerds brand and all associated media accounts fell dormant. Although falling silent and seemingly outwardly focusing on solo endeavours, the band never announced any official hiatus or split - quietly working through legal issues behind closed doors.

In the interim, Christopher Hudson continued to work as a song writer for other artists while also embarking on a successful career as a television personality in the UK, hosting and guesting on a variety of shows. Dennis Shaw turned his hand to online fitness coaching and motivating. Jerry Holmes would also go on to star in Celebrity Big Brother 7 and maintain a high profile within the media due to his marriage to Billy Khan. Despite maintaining a relatively low profile, Brian Bodkin would actually go on to become the first member of the band to release any form of solo output and also achieve a #1 record, featuring as the vocalist on Khalil's #1 hit 'Halcyon'. The track would go on to become one of the biggest selling tracks of 2016, respectively.

In 2020, the group briefly and unexpectedly returned. It appeared that the 'Ambition' era had been relaunched and reignited following a five-year silence with the release of new single "Move Like Fire". Although unbeknownst to audiences at the time, a deal had been struck which allowed the group to move forward with the release of new material. "Move Like Fire" helmed from new recording sessions in 2019, initially serving as an entire reboot of the project with all prior material set to be left on the cutting room floor. The release of the single was entirely self-funded and sent out earlier than anticipated with the band wanting it to be viewed as a "celebration" and a "bit of joy" amidst the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic happening at the time. However, all parties involved would yet again reach a stalemate and no further releases came to fruition.

Throughout the early 2020's, Bodkin, Holmes, Hudson and Shaw would continue in their fight for ownership of their name and recorded material. It would not be until 2025 where the group would finally rise victorious in their lengthy legal battle with the four members finally owning the trademark. Although many fans discovered this through publicly accessible documents, The Stat Nerds themselves wouldn't announce the news until six months later alongside their surprise return.

TIMELINE

2011-2012: Signed to Shooting Aces Records, The Stat Nerds release debut single "Going On" and begin working on an album titled "Want To Be". The album is canned completely when Shooting Aces close their doors, leaving the band with no label.

2012-2013: After signing with Studio 60 Records, The Stat Nerds return with #1 singles "Ready For The Weekend" and "Want Ur Love". Their debut album is set for a 2013 release, however, it is put on hold in order to record "stronger" material per request of their label and team.

2014-2015: The 2014 sessions is where the bulk of the material comes from. Raising their public profiles and working hard on new music, the demand for the band reach its peak here. New lead single "Out With A Bang" reaches #1 and becomes their biggest-selling song to date. A second single titled "Relapse" is lined up but never comes to fruition. This is when the beginning of legal troubles arise. Other songs such as "She's Not That Into You", "That Was Then, This Is Now", "You", "Thunder", "This Life" and "Ambition" come from these sessions.

2015-2019: The band fall dormant, fighting multiple legal battles behind the scenes regarding everything from the trademark ownership of their name to the rights of their music. They raise their individual public profiles pursuing other avenues during this time.

2019-2020: A new deal is temporarily struck between on parties following a takeover of Studio 60 Records and the music industry on its knees during the COVID-19 pandemic. The band work on new material for an intended 2020 rebooting of the album. "Move Like Fire" is released as the new lead single and peaks at #1. Tracks "Wake The Dead", "Casual Love", "Call Me Your Lover" and "Cold Hard Truth" also come from these sessions.

2020-2025: The group fall dormant once more as agreements reach another stalemate behind the scenes. The album is yet again shelved as legal battles ensue. The worldwide pandemic also halts and hinders proceedings. The band fall silent across all platforms and aren't seen to reference anything Stat Nerd related for several years.

2025-2026: The Stat Nerds members finally win the rights and the trademark ownership of their name. Months are spent acquiring ownership and licensing rights to over a decade's worth of recorded material once owned by several different parties.

2026: A distribution and licensing deal is struck between The Stat Nerds, Studio 60 Records and heart&sleeve to finally release the long-lost album. "Casual Love" is serviced as a single and "Ambition" is finally released on digital and streaming platforms with physical copies set to appear at a later date.

INFORMATION

"Ambition" is a song by American boyband The Stat Nerds. The song serves as the opening and title track of their long-awaited debut album. "Ambition" formally received its official release alongside the album on May 31, 2026 and is one of the oldest surviving tracks to make the final cut. The song officially premiered back in 2015 when the band debuted it as part of their live set at Fall Festival 2015. It had only been performed once and no official recording had been released, leaked or teased in over a decade. The track was written by band members Brian Bodkin and Christopher Hudson alongside British songwriter Teresa Newton in 2013, providing the catalyst and inspiration for the album's titling and the ironic overarching theme of the legal journey the band would go on to be embroiled in. Production of the track was handled by British-Pakistani DJ and record producer Komi, whom the band worked closely with during the earliest sessions in the album's lengthy history.

"Ambition" combines Komi's signature R&B and urban-inflicted production alongside The Stat Nerds' upbeat pop sensibilities and the overall 'nostalgic' sonic nods scattered across the entire album. With Funk-laden guitar licks, rapidly building drums and a groovy bassline, "Ambition" serves as one of The Stat Nerds' most R&B adjacent offerings while still remaining rooted in pop music. The confident and braggadocious track serves as the perfect album and concert opener, blending fast-paced, rhythmic verses with a powerful, soaring pop chorus.

Lyrically, the track is a "kiss-off" to haters, naysayers and those who tried to hinder the band on the road to achieving their dreams. Prior to the "boyband boom" of the early 2010's which saw the likes of The Stat Nerds, Weekend, The Zone and ELMNT rise to prominence, the concept of boybands in a viable commercial capacity appeared all but dead in the water with many labels not willing to invest and support such projects. It is believed that the track is in part inspired by such scenarios as the group croon; "they all said that it couldn't be done". In retrospect, however, many believe that Bodkin, Holmes, Hudson and Shaw were singing about their legal troubles and hitting back at their label and the continuous pushbacks surrounding the album with phrases such as "Forget your label..." and "...another false start" being cherry-picked and revaluated years afterwards.

They all said that it couldn't be done
They all said that it couldn't be done
Guess they underestimated my ambition
I see it through when I'm on a mission

With your sticks and stones I might bruise a little
Time's a great healer, I just shake it off
You can push and shove but I'll never play second fiddle
Activate Beast Mode when it's getting rough
Storming out ahead, I'll be wearing that medal
Middle finger to the ones who said I wasn't good enough

Forget your label, I ain't gonna wear it
Original, I'm not one of the generics
Chains don't bind me, I'm ahead on the track
And you can kiss the dirt on another false start

Not gonna fall at your feet, I'm not your possession
All eyes upon me, what is this crazy obsession?
Build me up just to watch the fall
But I'm not taking my eye off the ball
I see it through when I'm out on a mission
Rule number one, don't underestimate my ambition

You're talking all that stupid shhhh, here we go again
I laugh and shrug it off 'cause that's just how I do
Busy schedule, no time for your wicked games
Can't stop to listen, you know I'm always on the move
Don't steal my sunshine with your bitter rain
Tell me why are you always feeling blue?

Forget your label, I ain't gonna wear it
Original, I'm not one of the generics
Chains don't bind me, I'm ahead on the track
And you can kiss the dirt on another false start

Not gonna fall at your feet, I'm not your possession
All eyes upon me, what is this crazy obsession?
Build me up just to watch the fall
But I'm not taking my eye off the ball
I see it through when I'm out on a mission
Rule number one, don't underestimate my ambition

They all said that it couldn't be done
They all said that it couldn't be done
Guess they underestimated my ambition

I see it through when I'm on a mission
Forget their barbed words and twisted devotion
Every word they say is just a drop in the ocean

Not gonna fall at your feet, I'm not your possession
All eyes upon me, what is this crazy obsession?
Build me up just to watch the fall
But I'm not taking my eye off the ball
I see it through when I'm out on a mission
Rule number one, don't underestimate my ambition

Title: Want Ur Love
Genre(s): Pop, Electropop, Dance

INFORMATION

Want Ur Love is a song by American boy band The Stat Nerds and GirlSpice member Sophia. It was initially released on January 1, 2013 as the second single from The Stat Nerds' debut album campaign. The track was met with critical acclaim and commercial success, debuting at #1 on Chart Heat Hot 20 Singles and earning the band their second chart-topping hit. Conceptualised as a means of both capitalising on the success of previous #1 record "Ready For The Weekend" as well as doing damage control over the track's subject matter, "Want Ur Love" was aimed at mainstream radio stations in an attempt to broaden and solidify the band's reach. Early versions of the track were penned by band members Dennis Shaw and Christopher Hudson. When it became evident that the song would work better a back-and-forth male and female collaboration, the band approached Sophia, a member of girl group GirlSpice, with the invitation of jumping on the record. The track was reworked and rewritten with Stellar penning her own sections. The track was produced by The Wolverines and later remastered for its 2026 release.

"Want Ur Love" is an up-tempo electropop and dance-pop track with elements of disco. It features an infectious whistling melody, upbeat electronic drums, and synths. The track starts off with quick opening beat with a catchy whistling sounds mixed with synths and other generated instruments and guitar chords that automatically give the opening beats of the track this fun, enthusiastic attitude. The epicentre of the song features powerful vocals backed up by "throbbing" synths and fast-paced beat drums, creating a "full" pop sound and "energetic" peaks while the introduction and ending of the track focus on a more "natural" twanging of funky guitars and the whistling, bookending the "manic" core of the song with a more "subdued", "human-like" quality in comparison to the heavily produced track.

Lyrically, "Want Ur Love" is a tongue-in-cheek back-and-forth exchange between Sophia and all the members of the band themselves. Brian, Jerry, Christopher and Dennis all plead their cases and try their best to schmooze and woo Sophia in attempt to win her love. Sophia initially teases the boys in her first verse, revealing that she's aware of how they're all admiring her and that she possesses the power to make them sweat. Throughout the back and forth, the guys hype Sophia up to Goddess-like status while she herself tells them to "up their game" and, if they do say, they may be in with a chance to become "more than strangers in the dark".

Oh, she's dangerous, but danger's never looked so beautiful
One glance of you, and girl, you've got me feeling delusional
I must have lost my mind, cause I'm playing with fire
She said she hates the chase, but she's a liar
Cause she's got every guy trapped in the palm of her hand
Snaps her fingers and they're all at her demand

You want my love? You want to make me smile?
The way you look at me, I can tell you love more than my style
I see you're staring at what I'm wearing, I see you sweating
And I know you're anticipating, heart racing, and I'm betting
That you wanna walk on up to me...
I can tell you want something from me...

You look like the kinda girl that I wanna get to know
Cause you shine like a star who's running the show

So if you wanna get to know me, better know the right lines
Cause I'm fast with catching out all the white lies

The night is young, and I know there's no rush
But I just can't help but to want your love

Well if you want my love, better step up to the mark
Prove it to me, and we could be more than strangers in the dark

I want your love, I want your love
You want my love? You want my love?
I want your love, I want your love

She commands the room with ease, everyone loves her
Don't care what's in my glass, I know what I prefer
And she's a tease, but I know she likes the attention
And girl, I'm thinking of ways we could kill the tension
Long legs on show with her beach blonde hair
She's got a deadly weapon to make every guy stare

She's the life and soul of the party, knows how to make a scene
On the floor, she starts this place up just like a machine
And what I'd give to steal her heart away
All eyes on her like she's walking down a runway
Oh, we could know more than just each others first name
Just one single chance, and I promise you'll feel the same

You look like the kinda girl that I wanna get to know
Cause you shine like a star who's running the show

So if you wanna get to know me, better know the right lines
Cause I'm fast with catching out all the white lies

The night is young, and I know there's no rush
But I just can't help but to want your love

Well if you want my love, better step up to the mark
Prove it to me, and we could be more than strangers in the dark

I want your love, I want your love
You want my love? You want my love?
I want your love, I want your love

Come on up to me, baby, don't be shy
I've seen you looking all night, so come give me a try
I know you want me, I see the hunger in your eyes
Just open your mouth and let all your words free
Take the risk and break the ice, come roll the dice
I heard I'm your favorite in GirlSpice
Charm me until I'm floating on the clouds above
Yeah, I know you want my love...

I want your love, I want your love
You want my love? You want my love?
I want your love, I want your love
You want my love? You want my love?
I want your love, I want your love

You look like the kinda girl that I wanna get to know
Cause you shine like a star who's running the show

So if you wanna get to know me, better know the right lines
Cause I'm fast with catching out all the white lies

The night is young, and I know there's no rush
But I just can't help but to want your love

Well if you want my love, better step up to the mark

I want your love, I want your love
You want my love? You want my love?

INFORMATION

"That Was Then, This Is Now" is a song by American boyband The Stat Nerds. The song serves as the third track on their long-awaited debut album, "Ambition". "That Was Then, This Is Now" formally received its official release alongside the album on May 31, 2026 and is one of the oldest surviving tracks to make the final cut. The song officially premiered back in 2015 when the band debuted it as part of their live set at Fall Festival 2015. It had only been performed once and no official recording had been released, leaked or teased in over a decade. The track was written solely by band member Dennis Shaw in 2014 after Studio 60 Records postponed the album's original 2013 date, wanting the band to record "stronger" material for the project. Production of the track was handled by production trio LosOscuros who, at the time, were most known for working with fellow boy band Weekend.

"That Was Then, This Is Now" is a pop-rock track with elements of synth-pop and electropop. The "powerful" track filled with "soaring" vocals was built for massive stadiums with echoing claps and driving rhythms. The heavily layered vocal arrangements and chanting harmonies in the chorus amplify the crowd-pleasing, sing-along style. Bright 1980s-inspired synthesizers provide a thick, energetic electronic foundation, however, cutting through the rockier production and allowing the song to lend itself to the pop stylings and nostalgic nods that run throughout the album. The cheerful chord progressions deliver an uplifting, feel-good California-pop vibe that mirrors the sunny optimism within the lyrics of the song.

Lyrically, "That Was Then, This Is Now" can be described as a "break-up anthem". It chronicles the boys saying their piece towards a manipulative, using ex-partner and proclaiming how much better off they feel now that they are single. Despite many members of the band entering and exiting some high profile relationships over the years, writer of the track Dennis Shaw has maintained a consistently low profile in regards to his personal life so it is unclear whether the track is rooted in truth or is merely a work of fiction.

You played me like the strings on my guitar
I couldn’t see that you were using me
And we were wrong all along

You had me from the first thing you said
You got me to fall for you,
Made me a pawn for you,
Then you left me for dead

But that was then and this is now
I’m over you, I’m getting out
My fears are gone, I’m finding out
How good it feels to live without
your lies, goodbye
You turned my whole world upside-down
but that was then and this is now

You wrecked me like you wrecked the life we made
You’ll never know what you did for my soul
When you turned and walked away
Cause you only ever made things worse

And ever since you’ve been gone
Girl, I’ve been moving on
Though some nights it still hurts

But that was then and this is now
I’m over you, I’m getting out
My fears are gone, I’m finding out
how good it feels to live without
your lies, goodbye
You turned my whole world upside-down
but that was then and this is now

No, there’s no doing this again
And there’s no being friends

Not after the pain you caused
Oh no, there’s no doing this again

And there’s no being friends
Not after the pain you caused

But that was then and this is now
I’m over you, I’m getting out
My fears are gone, I’m finding out
how good it feels to live without
your lies, goodbye
You turned my whole world upside-down
but that was then and this is now

But that was then and this is now
I’m over you, I’m getting out
My fears are gone, I’m finding out
how good it feels to live without
your lies, goodbye
You turned my whole world upside-down
but that was then and this is now

That was then

This is now

Label: Studio 60 Records, heart&sleeve
From The Album: Ambition

INFORMATION

"Thunder" is a song by American boyband The Stat Nerds. The song serves as the fourth track on their long-awaited debut album, "Ambition". "Thunder" formally received its official release alongside the album on May 31, 2026 and is one of the oldest surviving tracks to make the final cut. The song officially premiered back in 2015 when the band debuted it as part of their live set at Fall Festival 2015. It had only been performed once and no official recording had been released, leaked or teased in over a decade. The track was written solely by band member Christopher Hudson in 2014 after Studio 60 Records postponed the album's original 2013 date, wanting the band to record "stronger" material for the project. Production of the track was handled by production trio LosOscuros who, at the time, were most known for working with fellow boy band Weekend.

"Thunder" is structured as a soul-baring R&B and rock-pop mid-tempo ballad. The sonic presentation purposefully mirrors the themes of helplessness, restriction, and emotional eruption. The song blends contemporary R&B with alternative pop sensibilities and relies heavily on traditional "power ballad" framework. This provides a grand, theatrical platform for Hudson's expansive vocal abilities. Christopher, who takes lead on the song, claimed that while it is one of his favourites, the track is also "rather challenging" to sing. "Thunder" has a minimalistic verse and explosive chorus structure. The sonic space within the verses is sparse, leaving their voices isolated against cold, pulsing synths while in the chorus, the empty space is replaced by a massive wall of sound. As the title and themes suggest, the overall soundscape of "Thunder" is dark, cavernous, and emotionally claustrophobic.

Lyrically, "Thunder" is all about the emotional turmoil and the heightened adrenaline that comes with the explosive end of an already volatile relationship. Although nods towards the toxicity of said relationship trickle throughout the song, the boys show an overwhelming urge to return to this set-up, hinting towards themes of co-dependency. The relationship is almost treated like an addiction that one can't shake, yearning to crawl back to it in spite of all of the negative repercussions that exist alongside being in that scenario. Dark and violent imagery is conjured up throughout the song with references to bruising, twisting knives, aching, fire and death all suggesting that the relationship in which they are desperate to return to is anything but happy and healthy.

All guns blazing like we had nothing to lose
Should've fought harder, I tried to play it cool
Don't know where my head's at nor your heart too
Raging down roads we once cruised
Can't escape the aching, pressure on the bruise

Your fingerprints still live on the wine glass
Your perfume lingers and it drives everything home
Can't even tell you when I slept last
Can try to break out but we're carved into stone

We were both so fragile and dizzy
When we jumped out overboard
I don't know what we were thinking
When we let go of the ropes
Hope you come around just like the seasons will change
Through all of your fire, I'm still drawn to the flame
We can't let this ship go under, under
I know we can roll with the tides and the thunder

Crash right into me, yeah
Crash right into me, yeah, yeah, yeah, hey
Crash right into me, yeah, yeah
Crash right into me again

Dust to dust, you say we're dead and buried
But I'm still praying this is all temporary
Did I really go and make the situation heavy?
Or are you twisting the knife just to hurt me?
Say it's all a damn joke 'cause I'm getting worried

Lost count of the days but the lights stay on
Desperately hoping you'll see it as a sign
Maybe you can use it to guide you back home?
Lie to myself for just a little peace of mind

We were both so fragile and dizzy
When we jumped out overboard
I don't know what we were thinking
When we let go of the ropes
Hope you come around just like the seasons will change
Through all of your fire, I'm still drawn to the flame
We can't let this ship go under, under
I know we can roll with the tides and the thunder

Crash right into me, yeah
Crash right into me, yeah, yeah, yeah, hey
Crash right into me, yeah, yeah
Crash right into me again

Don't hit me with that "too little, too late"
Swallow your pride, we've all made mistakes

I know that this keeps you awake
What doesn't kill us only makes us stronger

So give me something before I slip under
Take it out on me, roll under the covers like thunder

We were both so fragile and dizzy
When we jumped out overboard
I don't know what we were thinking
When we let go of the ropes
Hope you come around just like the seasons will change
Through all of your fire, I'm still drawn to the flame
We can't let this ship go under, under
I know we can roll with the tides and the thunder

Crash right into me, yeah
Crash right into me, yeah, yeah, yeah, hey

Artist(s): The Stat Nerds
Title: Move Like Fire
Genre(s): Electropop, Synthpop, Dance Pop
Length: 3:11
Writer(s): C.Hudson
Producer(s): Orion Washington
Label: Studio 60 Records, heart&sleeve
From The Album: Ambition

INFORMATION

"Move Like Fire" is a song by American boyband The Stat Nerds. The song serves as the fifth track on their long-awaited debut album, "Ambition", and was also serviced as the fifth single throughout the album's cycle. Initially released on July 13, 2020 after The Stat Nerds temporarily settled their legal dilemma with their previous management team amidst the revamping of the Studio 60 Records roster and the COVID-19 worldwide pandemic, "Move Like Fire" was set to serve as the new leading single from "Ambition". Throughout 2019, the group worked on brand new material with the goal of completely superseding all past releases and starting anew. Although this idea was short-lived as all parties involved would soon enter into legal deliberations again, "Move Like Fire" managed to receive an official release and entered the Chart Heat Hot 20 Singles at #1. The track was written solely by Christopher Hudson and production was handled by Orion Washington, who worked closely with the band through the 2019 sessions.

"Move Like Fire" sound wise is a synth-pop driven record that features a hypnotic, stuttering chorus with fun electronic pop smoothness. The track contains a distinct retro-revival production style, heavily blending late-80s and 90s nostalgia with sleek, modern pop elements. "Move Like Fire" is driven by a hyperactive, punchy drum machine combined with a funky, slapping bassline that gives the song its kinetic energy while full-bodied, slightly fuzzy guitars and nostalgic synth stabs pad out the background. The vocal performances of the members has been described as "silky smooth" with "glorious" layered harmonies within the chorus, their voices moving fluidly and with ease, almost as if hypnotised by flames, harkening back to the song's title.

Lyrically, "Move Like Fire" is a sultry track about struggling to fight one's internal, carnal desires. Filled with innuendo-laden lines like "Dripping down, what's coming over me?" and "I'm warmed up for a twelve-round thriller", the track is noted for being one of The Stat Nerds' most sexually charged songs in their discography. As the title would suggest, the song likens the presence of the romantic interest to being close to a powerful fire. References to "heat", "melting", "infernos" and the idea of having to lose one's clothes are dotted all throughout the song. Written after member Jerry Holmes publicly came out as a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, writer Christopher Hudson purposely avoided using any gender-specific pronouns within the song, allowing all members to sing it with conviction and broadening the listener's experience.

I knew you'd be here tonight
Thought I'd go out and take the leap
Wildest dreams but I feel it so vividly
Try to play it cooler than ice
But you melt me with the deadly heat
Dripping down, what's coming over me?

Fight with myself, wanna take it slow
But I'm so lost in the inferno
Feel like I'm walking barefoot on coals
Hot under the collar, need to lose these clothes
I'm ready to taste that sweetest vanilla
I'm warmed up for a twelve-round thriller
So starry-eyed and out of sight
Here we go, I'm ready to ignite

Getting so hot in here, like a thousand degrees
Careful if you light the match, this is pure gasoline
Alarm's been raised, they'll wanna
Put us out, put us out, put us out
With the way that you
Burn it down, burn it down, burn it down

You move like fire, ah
Yeah, you move like fire, ah
So come on burn me now, burn me now
Burn me now, yeah

Burn it up, burn me up, b-burn it
Burn me up, burn it, yeah
Burn it up, burn me up, b-burn it
Burn me up, burn it, yeah

Play with fire, pay the price
Yeah, I can never get over my curiosity
And you know exactly just how to tease
Wanna mix some sugar and spice
Burns going down but tastes so sweet
Nobody's watching, we can sneak another treat

Fight with myself, wanna take it slow
But I'm so lost in the inferno
Feel like I'm walking barefoot on coals
Hot under the collar, need to lose these clothes
I'm ready to taste that sweetest vanilla
I'm warmed up for a twelve-round thriller
So starry-eyed and out of sight

Burn me now, yeah

Burn it up, burn me up, b-burn it
Burn me up, burn it, yeah
Burn it up, burn me up, b-burn it
Burn me up, burn it, yeah

And it hurts so good, it hurts so good
Swirling in embers, let's raise the roof

And it hurts so good, it hurts so good
Swirling in embers, let's raise the roof

And it hurts so good, it hurts so good
Swirling in embers, let's raise the roof

Getting so hot in here, like a thousand degrees

Title: She's Not That Into You
Genre(s): Pop, Power Pop
Length: 3:44
Writer(s): D.Shaw, E.Zullo
Producer(s): LosOscuros
Label: Studio 60 Records, heart&sleeve
From The Album: Ambition

INFORMATION

"She's Not That Into You" is a song by American boyband The Stat Nerds. The song serves as the sixth track on their long-awaited debut album, "Ambition". "She's Not That Into You" formally received its official release alongside the album on May 31, 2026 and is one of the oldest surviving tracks to make the final cut. The track was written by member Dennis Shaw alongside acclaimed writer and pop act Erik Zullo in 2014 after Studio 60 Records postponed the album's original 2013 date, wanting the band to record "stronger" material for the project. The song was initially set to premiere at Fall Festival 2015 alongside "Ambition", "Thunder", "That Was Then, This Is Now" and "Relapse", however was cut last minute to shorten the set's runtime. Production of the track was handled by production trio LosOscuros who, at the time, were most known for working with fellow boy band Weekend.

"She's Not That Into You" lends itself to a pop-rock hybrid style, containing elements of anthemic "power pop" and "stadium rock". It moves away from the synthesised, polished dance and electropop that was the prominent sound within their recording sessions. Instead, it channels a driving, guitar-centric pop formula. The mix heavily prioritises the group's natural vocal harmonies and powerful vocal abilities, allowing them to "soar" against the "punchy" rock-oriented backing with no vocal tuning. The verses are slightly more stripped back, building continuous tension that completely explodes during the wide, catchy chorus. The soundscape mirrors the lyrical theme of feeling frantic and giddily overwhelmed by a nefarious ego boost and finding oneself involved in a morally wrong scenario.

Lyrically, "She's Not That Into You" flips the usual boyband tropes of being the heartbroken party or the pining, lovesick puppy and sees The Stat Nerds become the cocksure antagonists within the story. "She's Not That Into You" involves themes of adultery, deceit and ridicule while boasting cocky and unapologetic bravado. In the track, they admit to sleeping with and having an ongoing affair with someone's girlfriend, showing no signs or remorse or intention of stopping. They claim that the other party simply "wasn't good enough" and that it is their "turn" to "make her mine". Boldy stating to the betrayed lover that she's merely "not that into you", the band encourage the now ex-partner to find someone else as they've lost the battle.

She's not that into you
If she's playin' with me while you're still wait in'
She's not that into you

You'll find out she's not that into you
There's no mistaken' there's nothin' she won't do
When she's really into you
There's only one thing left you can do
She's not that into you

Well, I hate to break it to you but you've got to know
That your lady deserves better than an average joe
I'm not saying you're a bad guy, she's just out of your league
And your girls a better fit for someone like me

My momma used to say there ain't no excuse
I'm afraid she doesn't want to tell you the truth
My momma used to say there ain't no excuse
I'm afraid she doesn't want to tell you the truth

When I first saw her I wanted to know her more
I've never seen a girl so stunning like her before
You've had your chance, it's my turn to make her mine
She's got me goin' mmm hmmm she looks so fine

If you're hoping she's gonna change her act
You may have to wake up and face the fact
If you're hoping she's gonna change her act
You may have to wake up and face the fact

Artist: The Stat Nerds
Title: Casual Love
Genre(s): Synthpop, Power Pop
Length: 3:40
Writers: C.Hudson, B.Bodkin
Producer: Orion Washington
Label: Studio 60 Records, heart&sleeve
From The Album: Ambition

"Casual Love" is a song by American boyband The Stat Nerds. It serves as the seventh track on their long-awaited debut album, "Ambition". The track was released on May 28th, 2026 via Studio 60 Records and heart&sleeve. It is the first official release by the band in six years following the conclusion of a lengthy legal battle regarding the ownership of their trademarked group name and material recorded under an old contract which has since been thrown out. "Casual Love" follows on from 2020's chart-topping single "Move Like Fire" which itself initially served as a comeback for the group after a dormant period amidst their legal battles. The song was initially teased back in 2020, expected to be a follow-up to their #1 summer hit, however, no official release or further announcement materialised. "Casual Love" serves as the first official release under entertainment company heart&sleeve's 'REVIVED' series which sees previously unreleased and "fan-demanded" projects officially licensed and obtained for commercial release. The song was written by group members Brian Bodkin and Christopher Hudson, who has since gone on to have an illustrious career as a songwriter for other artists. Production of the track was handled by Orion Washington who produced previous single "Move Like Fire" and worked closely with the band in the late 2010's.

"Casual Love" is an upbeat "power pop" song with elements of electropop, synthpop, New Wave, disco and funk. It is heavily rooted in the sonics of 1980's music with modern flourishes leading to many critics to favourably compare it to the work of Lincoln. A heavy mix of guitars and synthesisers, "Casual Love" has been described as a fusion of both "hazy Blues" and "hypnotic funk" which has culminated in an overall "subdued" feeling across the production in spite of the song's relatively fast tempo. The verses of the song feature the trademark Hudson-penned characteristics of powerful, commanding and belting vocals while the chorus sees all four members uniting in a "smooth" and "delicate" harmony. This provides a flipped effect within the song, contrasting a "breezy" chorus against "urgent" verses.

Lyrically, "Casual Love" is about a "summer love" or "holiday romance" that was initially meant to be a no strings attached situation but as time goes on, feelings develop further. It is evident through their natural chemistry and the time they enjoy spending together that it could lead to something more serious. The verses focus on the sensual and sexual side of things, highlighting the insatiable appetite that's apparent within this set up and gleefully regaling their meetings. Within the chorus they admit their infatuation and confess to wanting to pursue something long term, thus going against the "casual love" agenda that was initially agreed upon in the beginning.

We been l-l-lovin' so hard through these summer days
Crashing like wild oceans through this tropical daze
Ordering that Hennessy just to go and binge on it
Liquor kisses and flashbacks to how we started this
Wasn't looking for the long term when you came my way
Now it's like the night of my life is stuck on replay

We said we were cool, no strings attached
But still bouncing like a yo-yo, keep on coming back
You got me losing all my cool when you come around
Can't help it, need you right here, right now

And I don't want you to be just another name
Stuck on the crazy love, I just can't walk away
Don't need no pill for kicks, you're my natural high
One night turned to two now you're heavy on my mind
Are you the one I've been needing all this time?
I don't want no casual lo-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-ove
I don't want no casual lo-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-ove
I don't want no casual love, casual love
I don't want no casual love, casual love

Baby keep on going, touch me with the slowest hands
An invitation turned into a one-way ticket to Dreamland
And I don't even know if what we're doing is right
Moving too fast to think, gotta get a grip, real tight
Ain't official but we haven't got eyes for any other
Days into weeks, more than a midnight mystery lover

You've shared all of your fantasies
Put 'em to work, work, work on me

We burnin' up in here like 1000 degrees
Spilled all your secrets, dark and nasty

No "I love you", no pretty little promises
Blurring the lines of what this really is

Do we lay it all on the line and make it easy?
You clearly don't give your heart away so freely
But I...

I don't want no casual love, casual love
I don't want no casual love, casual love

I don't want no casual lo-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-ove
I don't want no casual lo-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-ove
I don't want no casual love, casual love
I don't want no casual love, casual love

And I don't want you to be just another name
Stuck on the crazy love, I just can't walk away
Don't need no pill for kicks, you're my natural high
One night turned to two now you're heavy on my mind
Are you the one I've been needing all this time?
I don't want no casual lo-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-ove
I don't want no casual lo-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-ove
I don't want no casual love, casual love
I don't want no casual love, casual love

No casual love

INFORMATION

"Relapse" is a song by American boyband The Stat Nerds. The song serves as the eighth track on their long-awaited debut album, "Ambition". "Relapse" was, however, announced as the official follow-up single to "Out With A Bang", set for an early 2015 release. No single release materialised, however. The track was written by group members Jerry Holmes and Dennis Shaw in 2014 after Studio 60 Records postponed the album's original 2013 date, wanting the band to record "stronger" material for the project. Production of the track was handled by Austrian producer and songwriter, Tate.

"Relapse" is built on a "wall of sound" technique and, like a lot of tracks within The Stat Nerds' discography, shifts from intimate nostalgia to explosive energy. The track has its roots and heart nestled within traditional boy band, piano-laden balladry but exponentially builds into an electropop hybrid, with the fast and driving tempo of European dance music kicking in. "Relapse" opens with an overall "clean" sound; crisp vocals and a staccato acoustic piano chord progression. The soundscape gradually widens with the introduction of palm-muted acoustic guitars and sweeping synths before it shifts drastically during the chorus, filling out with massive, heavy electronic drum beats, pulsating synth basslines, and a soaring backing-vocal choir. The raw, powerful vocals and the "quiet-loud-quiet" production style mirror the mental and emotional back and forth within the introspective and somewhat dark lyrics.

Lyrically, "Relapse" is one of The Stat Nerds' most personal, introspective and emotional tracks within their repertoire. Although it is not explicitly stated and could be interpretated as a metaphor for numerous vices and difficult situations, the term "relapse" is often associated with substance abuse. Co-written by member Jerry Holmes, who has gone on public record on several occasions in regards to drug misuse, many believe that the song is in fact about addiction and possibly death. It stands as one of the darkest songs among their discography as not only does it tackle themes of substance abuse, self-hatred and an inferiority complex, the final chorus line "If I relapse now, I'll admit defeat" leans into nihilism and mortality, almost as if stating that this vice will consume and ultimately end their life should they dabble with it once more.

I'm just going through the motions
Trying not to show my face
The mirror is what's comfortable
But my heart's still out of place
Seasons change but I stay the same
If I relapse right now, I'll surely go insane

I see shards of glass and truth
If this life's a race I'm in first place
But I swear I always lose
I'm just so damn confused...

I've got a hand on my head and a hand on my heart
Wondering which to pull away, I have you on my mind
And a weight on my chest, is this just the game that we all play?

Well the moss points south and the tree fell north,
The ship made from this is far off course

Through this storm and wind I'm fighting not to say....
That I walk the streets with weighted feet,
A puzzle of heart and soul so incomplete

If I relapse now, I'll admit defeat

I point and laugh all at myself
Because I'm afraid to look at someone else
In fear of something comfortable, can't imagine you on the shelves
A runaway train that knows my name, the tracks under me as I flee
I start to run but stop, turn at the top, and hope for all I'll ever be
But the train is always me

I see shards of glass and truth
If this life's a race I'm in first place
But I swear I always lose
I'm just so damn confused...

I've got a hand on my head and a hand on my heart
Wondering which to pull away, I have you on my mind
And a weight on my chest, is this just the game that we all play?

Well the moss points south and the tree fell north,
The ship made from this is far off course

Through this storm and wind I'm fighting not to say....
That I walk the streets with weighted feet,
A puzzle of heart and soul so incomplete

If I relapse now, I'll admit defeat

The race which light and dark compete
The chase in which we all must leap
The same dream that fights my sleep

and I'm fighting not to say...
Fighting not to say...
Fighting for you to come and stay
Because I can't help but love you every day

I see shards of glass and truth
If this life's a race I'm in first place
But I swear I always lose
I'm just so damn confused...

I've got a hand on my head and a hand on my heart
Wondering which to pull away, I have you on my mind
And a weight on my chest, is this just the game that we all play?

Well the moss points south and the tree fell north,
The ship made from this is far off course

Through this storm and wind I'm fighting not to say....
That I walk the streets with weighted feet,
A puzzle of heart and soul so incomplete

Title: Cold Hard Truth
Genre(s): Funk-Pop, Rock-Pop
Length: 3:24
Writer(s): C.Hudson
Producer(s): Maddox
Label: Studio 60 Records, heart&sleeve
From The Album: Ambition

INFORMATION

"Cold Hard Truth" is a song by American boyband The Stat Nerds. The song serves as the ninth track on their long-awaited debut album, "Ambition". The track was released on May 31, 2026 alongside its parent album after being recorded in 2019 for an unsuccessful rebooting of the "Ambition" era. The track was written solely by Christopher Hudson and production was handled by Maddox, who was brought on board the project for its initial pre-COVID relaunch.

"Cold Hard Truth" is a funk and pop-rock inspired track that sits firmly in the modern dance-pop lane while infusing a distinct throwback "boogie-down" funk guitar rhythm. Critics have noted that the track "rides the middle ground" of the two prominent sounds heard within The Stat Nerds' discography; punchy power pop and sleekly produced polished rhythms. Containing a a highly infectious, rhythm-driven pop energy, the frantic guitars create a "biting" energy which works with the jaded lyricism and the "war of nerves" over who is going to be the first to admit defeat in the relationship. The track builds a vibrant wall of sound using danceable synths, sharp electronic drum beats, and bright percussion. The result provides an almost tongue-in-cheek contrast to the song's subject matter, creating an almost Stockholm Syndrome like atmosphere amidst the "to and fro" and repeated "motions" of a dying relationship.

Lyrically, "Cold Hard Truth" tells the story of a relationship that has run out of mileage but neither party wants to be the first to admit it. Rather than healthily separating or daring to talk about the situation out of fear of entering uncomfortable territory, the pair continue to "plod" along in wilful ignorance. This is possibly in the hope that things will "fix themselves" but is more than likely out of pride and possibly spite, preserving ones ego. Through the song, the question of "who's gonna be first to let go?" is repeatedly asked, almost as if it is a game and the first person to walk away from the relationship will be deemed as the "loser". Writer Christopher Hudson went on record in 2020, talking to Attitude Magazine about the then-unreleased track and claimed that it was based on a "very twisted personal experience" of his.

Back to back in our frosted room
We don't even have the energy to fight
Not fazed by the flickers in the light
Each day's a sadder shade of blue
All of the conversations have run dry
Do we even care enough to try?

Just silence in the dead of night
Ain't nothing going on but the rent
Open my mouth but I'm far too spent
Used to hold on so damn tight
I wonder where the good old days went?
Another day, further into descent

It's up and down like a yo-yo
Constant battle of to and fro
Who's gonna be the first to let go?

You used to be the answers to my prayers
Now you don't notice when I'm not there
We keep on playing on these broken strings
Don't wanna admit we made a mess of things
We're all out of faith and we're all out of tune
It's time we face the cold hard truth
Hmmm, the cold hard truth

Stuck in the same old place
At one point, the whole world was ours
Running free, oh, we knew no bounds
Never thought I'd need space
Thinking 'bout how we'd sit and talk for hours
Now all that was sweet has turned so sour

It's up and down like a yo-yo
Constant battle of to and fro
Who's gonna be the first to let go?

You used to be the answers to my prayers
Now you don't notice when I'm not there
We keep on playing on these broken strings
Don't wanna admit we made a mess of things
We're all out of faith and we're all out of tune
It's time we face the cold hard truth
Hmmm, the cold hard truth

I tell myself that it'll be OK
And that tomorrow is another day
But it never seems to come around
It's just the same old ticking sound
When did it all get so complicated?
I thought we'd be the ones who'd make it

You used to be the answers to my prayers
Now you don't notice when I'm not there
We keep on playing on these broken strings
Don't wanna admit we made a mess of things
We're all out of faith and we're all out of tune
It's time we face the cold hard truth
Hmmm, the cold hard truth

You used to be the answers to my prayers
Now you don't notice when I'm not there
We keep on playing on these broken strings
Don't wanna admit we made a mess of things
We're all out of faith and we're all out of tune
It's time we face the cold hard truth

INFORMATION

"You" is a song by American boyband The Stat Nerds. The song serves as the tenth track on their long-awaited debut album, "Ambition". "You" formally received its official release alongside the album on May 31, 2026 and is one of the oldest surviving tracks to make the final cut. The song dates back to the 2014 recording sessions of the album and was one of six song titles revealed across interviews by the band during that time period, however, was never performed. The track was written by band members Dennis Shaw and Jerry Holmes after Studio 60 Records postponed the album's original 2013 date, wanting the band to record "stronger" material for the project. Production of the track was handled by Austrian producer and songwriter, Tate, who produced fellow album track "Relapse" within the same sessions.

"You" is primarily a pop-rock power ballad, providing "Ambition" with one of its true, traditional down-tempo and emotional boy band ballad moments. The anthemic ballad features emotionally-raw "belting" vocals from all four members. Showcasing their unique and individual tones and talents, the band perform with no studio effects or vocal manipulation, with producer Tate placing their vocals right to the front of the track, serving as the ultimate driving force behind the composition. "You" follows the trademark "tension and release" mechanics of a lot of The Stat Nerds' hits, starting small in the verses, letting the instrumentals strip back to give the lyrics room to breathe, before intentionally exploding into a gargantuan chorus. More "organic" sounds such as acoustic guitars and a soft piano run as a cushioned undercurrent in the song, providing a more "emotional" foundation against the "rawer" balladeering vocals on top.

Lyrically, "You" is seen a classic love song and an ode to a dear partner. The song would suggest that the relationship in question is a young, blossoming one and the track itself serves as the first official confession of love and the realisation that it could become a long term situation. The group croon with rose-coloured glasses about how said lover within the song almost acts like a healing elixir, with their mere presence simply being enough to put them at ease and make them feel better about their lives. Written in the depths of the honeymoon phase, the track serves as one big outpouring of love and devotion with the group claiming in the chorus; "you'll never have a clue just how much I love you" as if their own penned words simply aren't enough to quantify their feelings.

You
Even when you're sad you're smiling
Shining brighter than a diamond
You're my sweet singing siren
By my paradise on an island

You
When you're begging me to stay
I can't make myself turn away
You're the sunshine in my day
Cutting through the darkest gray

What we have is just so true
With you by my side I could walk right through
The hardest rain, the strongest pain
Without ever looking back
Every time your lips meet mine
I can feel the sparks fly
And when you're in my arms I know
You're the place I feel at home
You can smile and say you do
But you'll never have a clue
How much I love you

You
Lay your head down on my shoulder
When this world keeps getting colder
The fire we have still keeps its smolder
And we just keep getting closer

You
Give me all the love you can
And it busts right through the dam
Drowning me so much quicker than
It did when our love first began

What we have is so true
When you're with me I can walk through
The hardest rain, the strongest pain
Without ever looking back
Every time your lips meet mine
I can feel the sparks fly
And when you're in my arms I know
You're the place I feel at home
You can smile and say you do
But you'll never have a clue
How much I love you
Yeah, baby I love you

Girl, we may be worlds apart
But my heart will always be with yours
I know we'll feel that fire again
When I knock on your front door

What we have is just so true
With you by my side I could walk right through
The hardest rain, the strongest pain
Without ever looking back
Every time your lips meet mine
I can feel the sparks fly
And when you're in my arms I know
You're the place I feel at home
You can smile and say you do
But you'll never have a clue
No you'll never have a clue
How much I love you
Yeah, yeah, yeah
How much I love you

INFORMATION

"Wake The Dead" is a song by American boyband The Stat Nerds. The song serves as the eleventh track on their long-awaited debut album, "Ambition". The track was released on May 31, 2026 alongside its parent album after being recorded in 2019 for an unsuccessful rebooting of the "Ambition" era. Throughout 2019, the group worked on brand new material with the goal of completely superseding all past releases and starting anew. It is one of the only tracks on the final incarnation of the album that had not been revealed or discussed prior to release, with fans knowing nothing of its existence until 2026. The track was written by members Christopher Hudson and Brian Bodkin alongside Australian songwriter Madeleine Fiori. Production was handled by Orion Washington, who was brought on board the project for its initial pre-COVID relaunch.

"Wake The Dead" is a mid-tempo synthpop track with heavy leanings into alternative 1980's pop music. The soundscape is built on dense, layered synthesizer pads, cascading chime melodies, and thick harmonies which provide warm and lush textures to the track. The expansive electronic landscape is one of the most "sophisticated" within "Ambition", leaning heavily on the nostalgia-tinged sounds explored across the record while avoiding an overproduced nature, leaning into a "warmer" more "analogue" feel. The "twinkling" synths provide a feeling of optimistic euphoria for the listener as it accompanies the courageous and inspiring lyrical content within. A subtle four-piece harmony by the band runs throughout the entirety of the song, turned down quietly in the mix, which gives a soft and gentle cushioning to the affirming track.

Lyrically, "Wake The Dead" taps into the overarching themes and messages of confidence, resilience and fighting back that have followed through the entirety of the "Ambition" era. It echoes the defiant words heard on the album's opener and title track while also reflecting the personal journey that the band have embarked on over the course of the album's history. Penned in 2019 well into the midst of their legal battles, "Wake The Dead" is believed to be heavily inspired by the detractors and obstacles the band continued to face at the time. The central line of "Gonna sing my song so loud I wake the dead" being a musical reference further fuels the idea that the track was written in reference to The Stat Nerds' inability to legally release their music for multiple years while references to "caged birds" further back this up. The song, however, remains vague enough that it allows all listeners to apply it to any situation of adversity.

There's been one too many mistakes
Underestimated the height of the stakes
Switching off my phone, unplugging today
Embers of yesterday just burn away
Not swimming down there in your gutter
Shades on, I'm dreaming in technicolour

Rolled with the punches all my life
Taken everything except my own advice
I'm letting go, no regrets tonight
No hesitation, no thinking twice

I'd rather feel free for a moment
Than caged for a lifetime
Water off my back, this bird has flown
Soaring higher with the sunrise
I just don't care, when all is said
Feels so good to kick your voice out my head
I just don't care, when all is said
Gonna sing my song so loud I wake the dead

I didn't ask to be put on a throne
I've begged to lay down these sticks and stones
Some say better the devil that you know
Well, I think that's a kind of sick joke
In my Eden, I don't need a snake
The seeds I plant aren't yours to take

No, I ain't here if anyone asks
On a higher plane, exploring a new path
No false smiles or a slip of the mask
Won't hesitate, won't look back

I'd rather feel free for a moment
Than caged for a lifetime
Water off my back, this bird has flown
Soaring higher with the sunrise
I just don't care, when all is said
Feels so good to kick your voice out my head
I just don't care, when all is said
Gonna sing my song so loud I wake the dead

Save it for another time, another time
Won't you give a break to that tiny mind?

Save it for another time, another time
Don't you get tired being the hateful kind?

Save it for another time, another time
Won't you give a break to that tiny mind?

Save it for another time, another time
Don't you get tired being the hateful kind?

I'd rather feel free for a moment
Than caged for a lifetime
Water off my back, this bird has flown
Soaring higher with the sunrise
I just don't care, when all is said
Feels so good to kick your voice out my head
I just don't care, when all is said
Gonna sing my song so loud I wake the dead

Title: Call Me Your Lover

INFORMATION

"Call Me Your Lover" is a song by American boyband The Stat Nerds. The song serves as the twelfth track on their long-awaited debut album, "Ambition". The track was written solely by member Dennis Shaw. Production was handled by British-Turkish DJ and producer Khalil, who previously collaborated with Stat Nerds member Brian Bodkin on the the track "Halcyon" in 2015. "Call Me Your Lover" stands out as Khalil's first ballad production, dramatically veering from his usual club music roots.

"Call Me Your Lover" is a downtempo pop ballad, featuring a sparse minimalist production. A solitary, warm, and slightly muted piano progression anchors the entire track. "Call Me Your Lover" gradually swells into a cinematic, sweeping strings section during the second verse and chorus, before collapsing back into isolation at the very end. The track contains a live, "unvarnished" feel as the vocals used on the final product are actually the raw, first-takes of each member on the demo recording. With minimal compression on the vocals, it allows all four members to showcase their natural vocal textures against the bright reverb. With the minimalist production and raw vocals placed at the centre of the mix, it creates an intimate, vulnerable and somewhat melancholic atmosphere.

Lyrically, "Call Me Your Lover" is about being victimized in relationships over and over again to the point where one becomes numb to it. With an almost co-dependent, Stockholm Syndrome effect going on, the person tragically finds comfort within the fear and violence - keeping them grounded and certain with all they've ever known and experienced. The group sing about how they would much rather stay in a disastrous relationship just to grasp onto that sense of belonging and being part of something as opposed to feeling alone. The track initially had the working title of "Peace in Your Violence" but was changed on account of several members feeling it was both too "on the nose" and that it may be seen as glamourising abuse rather than focusing on the intricacies, complications and layers of it all.

I'm more a coward than a fighter,
'Cause all my life I've been hidin',
Loving only ever left me homeless,
So tired, I'm lost in psychosis

I lost love in the darkness,
No point in tryin', I'm heartless,
Our love was supposed to be dauntless,
But now I just ain't fightin'

I'm at peace with your violence,
Love is not exactly a science,
So don't leave me alone in this darkness,
Yeah, dont leave me alone in this darkness,
I'm at peace with your violence,
Just one word from you and I'm silenced,
Keep me close, I swear I won't try it,
Yeah, I swear I won't try it

I'm in need of a rescue,
All this damage, I swear I didn't mean to,
But I've been lost in the sky,
I should be gone, darlin', I won't lie

I found love in this darkness,
Come hold me I swear I ain't heartless,
I'm in love with you and your essence,
but I just can't bear this damn silence

I'm at peace with your violence,
Don't hold back, I swear I won't stop it,
If I fall, you'll be my savior,
Yeah, you'll be my savior,
I'm at peace with your violence,
Without you the sky is just starless,
So lift me up and call me your lover,
Yeah, call me your lover,

I'm at peace with your violence,
But I found love inside this darkness,
Without you the sky is just starless,
And I can't bear this silence,
So hold me close, I swear I ain't heartless,
Don't hold back, I swear I won't stop it,
So lift me up and call me your lover,
'Cause I found peace in your violence

Title: Out With A Bang
Genre(s): Pop, Funk, Disco
Length: 3:32
Writer(s): C.Hudson
Producer(s): Tate
Label: Studio 60 Records, heart&sleeve
From The Album: Ambition

INFORMATION

"Out With A Bang" is a song by American boyband The Stat Nerds. The song serves as the thirteenth and track on the standard edition of their long-awaited debut album, "Ambition". "Out With A Bang" was initially released on October 17, 2014 as the then-lead single from "Ambition" after Studio 60 Records expressed their dissatisfaction with the previously recorded material, effectively shelving the intended 2013 release for the album. Penned by band member Christopher Hudson and released after his breakout stint on Celebrity Big Brother 4, the track was an instant critical and commercial success. It debuted at #1 on Chart Heat Hot 20 Singles and is The Stat Nerds' biggest-selling hit to date. It is regarded as their signature song and is also viewed as the track that spearheaded Christopher Hudson's fruitful career as a songwriter in the following years. "Out With A Bang" has received numerous accolades, with ThatMusicSite placing it at #1 in their poll of The 50 Catchiest Pop Bangers.

"Out With A Bang" is a high energy, uptempo pop song that is heavily indebted to the late-1970s disco dance floors with its funk and disco crossover. While built on a vintage foundation, it integrates a subtle dubstep-influenced beat and modern electronic elements allowing the song to elevate above the label of being a pure nostalgia trip. The walking funk bassline and snappy, compressed drums create an urgent groove while the electronic synthesisers make for a punchy and radio-ready production style focused on relentless hook delivery. The "majestic" and "bombastic" chorus combined with the "incessantly catchy" post-chorus hook have become trademark's of Hudson's penmanship, with this song in particular being cited as the chrysalis of his award-winning formula. Another key feature of the track is the prominence of Hudson's impressive falsetto within the post-chorus.

Lyrically, "Out With A Bang" is an innuendo filled, tongue in cheek recollection of a one night stand. The track oozes the blissful carefree attitude of youth and single life, acting on impulse while being motivated by alcoholic intoxication. Although driven by a more sexually charged nature, "Out With A Bang" also touches upon the themes of confidence and empowerment explored across the record, encouraging one to seize the day and let go of inhibitions in order to enjoy life. Upon release, BBC Radio 1 were initially reluctant to play the track upon the belief that the usage of the word "bang" wasn't a subtle enough metaphor for the word "sex". However, due to the song's instant popularity, the decision was overruled and was immediately A-Listed on their playlist. Although later stated to be an "unconscious decision" by Hudson, "Out With A Bang" doesn't contain any gender specific pronouns, giving the song a more diverse reach.

Bring your lips a little closer
Kiss me quick before we're sober
No, I'm not drunk on your l-l-love
It's those lips that taste like sparkling wine
Can't remember a word you've said
But all of your little signals have been read
Ta-take me home, overnight vacation
Slowly sipping on the sunshine

Come and get a little of this
I just can't seem to fight the feelin'

You've got a great appetite for danger
It's like we're the perfect midnight strangers

Another insatiable kiss
You know that it's so hard to resist

Get dirty under the covers, we'll be the perfect lovers

Don't know the first thing about ya
Just that you whet this appetite

Yeah just keep talking that talk,
And let our fingers intertwine

Oh, in the morning you'll be gone and we both have other plans
So short and sweet but we went out with a bang

Bang, bang, b-b-b-bang, b-bang
B-b-bang, bang, baby, bang, bang, baby

We don't want to feel lonely, if just for one night only
Bang, bang, b-b-b-bang, b-bang
B-b-bang, bang, baby, bang, bang, baby

In the morning you'll be gone...

As the world starts to fall asleep
Baby, lay down here with me
Bite on my lip, leave me weak at the knees
Come on, fill me with your venom
I'll be your mystery Casanova tonight
If you want nothing more, that's fine
We'll just keep on doing what we're doing
Give you a little taste of heaven

Come and get a little of this
I just can't seem to fight the feelin'

You've got a great appetite for danger
It's like we're the perfect midnight strangers

Another insatiable kiss
You know that it's so hard to resist

In the morning you'll be gone...

And I never was any good at goodbyes
No, we shouldn't have to feel guilty, no regrets
We were just living for the night

Label: Studio 60 Records, heart&sleeve
From The Album: Ambition

INFORMATION

"Ready For The Weekend" is a song by American boyband The Stat Nerds. The song serves as the first bonus track, fourteenth overall, on their long-awaited debut album "Ambition". "Ready For The Weekend" was initially released on November 22, 2012 as the intended lead single from the project, serving as the group's first release under Studio 60 Records following the liquidation of their previous label the year prior. The planned 2013 release for the album was shelved, however, due to Studio 60's dissatisfaction with the material. Upon release, "Ready For The Weekend" was a commercial success, giving The Stat Nerds their first #1 single. The release was met with a mixed critical response, however, with some applauding the audacious nature of the track while others criticised the apparent dig at fellow boy band Weekend within the lyrics. The song was written by members Jerry Holmes, Brian Bodkin and Dennis Shaw alongside songwriter Andrew Cox. Production was handled by Austrian DJ and producer Tate.

"Ready For The Weekend" is a Dance-pop, Eurodance, and Euro-house crossover song. The track heavily draws from Euro-house and the Euro-Caribbean "popcorn pop" movement popularized in European clubs at the time. Production of the track utilizes a signature, sharp, synthetic marimba log-drum sound which becomes the melodic backbone of the song. "Ready For The Weekend" could be considered the first of The Stat Nerds' classic "tension and release" formula. The verses and chorus are stripped of heavy instruments, relying heavily on vocal harmonies and a pulsating sub-bass. This creates immense acoustic tension before dropping into the full, main synth hook.

Lyrically, "Ready For The Weekend" is a celebratory party anthem with the idea of letting loose after a long and exasperating week full of school, work and tiredness. While on the surface, it may read as simply being excited and ready to enjoy the forthcoming weekend, many listeners and critics noted the digs thrown at fellow boy band and industry rivals, Weekend. Title aside, the entirety of the song's chorus is made up of numerous Weekend song titles and several lines such as; "Give up your crushes on all of those little boys" and "we know they'll make your ears bleed" were seen as pointed remarks towards the other group. Ironically, Weekend and The Stat Nerds would form a strong friendship several years after this release with Jerry Holmes going on to marry Billy Khan.

The evening is upon us and the strip is gleaming bright
We’re getting ready to move all through the night
Girl get your party shoes on
Let’s dance until the night has gone

Short skirts and diamond rings
The beat is never ending
Just like the songs we sing
Everybody’s drinking the night away
Hold me close by your side
This is what we’ll say

Ooooh yeah girl, get ready for the weekend
Ooooh yeah girl, we don’t need to pretend
Ooooh yeah girl, I know what you don’t need
Ooooh yeah girl, we know they’ll make your ears bleed
On the weekend

Darling I don’t know everything about you
I don’t even have to

I ain’t gonna smile about it
I ain’t gonna scream and shout it

So if you’re fired up
Then lock it up

Just turn that music way down low
We could be together

But there’s something that you need to know

If you wanna be my friend
You’ve gotta be ready for the weekend
Give up your crushes on all of those little boys
Throw them away like unwanted toys
It’s time to get with a real man
And baby this is our plan

Ooooh yeah girl, get ready for the weekend
Ooooh yeah girl, we don’t need to pretend
Ooooh yeah girl, I know what you don’t need
Ooooh yeah girl, we know they’ll make your ears bleed
On the weekend

Darling I don’t know everything about you
I don’t even have to

I ain’t gonna smile about it
I ain’t gonna scream and shout it

So if you’re fired up
Then lock it up

Just turn that music way down low
We could be together

But there’s something that you need to know

Ooooh yeah girl, get ready for the weekend
Ooooh yeah girl, we don’t need to pretend
Ooooh yeah girl, I know what you don’t need
Ooooh yeah girl, we know they’ll make your ears bleed
On the weekend

Now if you're ready for the weekend
Let me hear you scream!
Just throw your hands up
We'll be making a scene

And we don't need no Chaos Awards!
Not when there's so much more to enjoy
When it's the weekend

Now stand up, scream and shout
It's time for you to say it aloud
Get ready, get ready
It's time for you to say it aloud

Darling I don’t know everything about you
I don’t even have to

I ain’t gonna smile about it
I ain’t gonna scream and shout it

So if you’re fired up
Then lock it up

Just turn that music way down low
We could be together

But there’s something that you need to know

Darling I don’t know everything about you (oooh nooo)
I don’t even have to

I ain’t gonna smile about it (Ain't gonna smile about it baaabaay!)
I ain’t gonna scream and shout it

So if you’re fired up
Then lock it up
(oh lock it up!)
Just turn that music way down low (Turn down the volume!)
We could be together

But there’s something that you need to know

Ooooh yeah girl, get ready for the weekend

Title: Going On
Genre(s): Pop, Synthpop, Dance-Pop
Length: 3:28
Writer(s): D.Shaw
Producer(s): Krishnan Koke
Label: Studio 60 Records, heart&sleeve
From The Album: Ambition

INFORMATION

"Going On" is a song by American boyband The Stat Nerds. The song serves as the second bonus track, fifteenth overall, on their long-awaited debut album "Ambition". "Going On" was initially released as the band's debut single on March 19, 2011 via 'Shooting Aces Records'. The track was intended to be the lead single from their debut album, "Want To Be". Despite a heavy promotional push and receiving a significant budget, the album was scrapped in its entirety and pulled completely when Shooting Aces unexpectedly fell into liquidation later that year. The band would start afresh in 2012, signing to Studio 60 Records and relaunching with "Ready For The Weekend". "Going On" was initially a moderate seller, peaking at #17 on The Chart Heat Hot 20 before catapulting to #6 several weeks later following the group's performance at the "Hall of Fame" awards show. The track was written solely by member Dennis Shaw and produced by Indian-American producer Krishnan Koke. Its inclusion on the album marks the first time in over 14 years that the song has been acknowledged by the band, finally gaining back the rights to the oldest song in their catalogue.

"Going On" is a synthpop and dance-pop track with the core framework relying heavily on synthesized textures, electronic basslines, and structured pop progressions. Although reflecting the club-centric style popular across European music scenes at the time, "Going On" also has roots within the contemporary R&B soundscape. The vocal arrangements and individual verses borrow the smooth delivery style from late-2000s American R&B. While being a "smooth" sounding track, to create a sense of tension and anticipation, the background features electronic white noise sweeps and synthesised risers. "Going On" contains vocal doubling and manipulation, most notably on the song's stuttering and robotic-like introductory line.

Lyrically, "Going On" can be deemed as a break-up anthem and sets the groundwork for The Stat Nerds' signature songs of defiance and overcoming throughout their discography. The songs centres around a relationship gone wrong and having to get passed that inevitable task of getting over that ex-partner. The song begins with the typical heartbroken emotions, leaning into their sadness and still somewhat pining and grieving for someone they once deemed as "the best". By the time we get to the core of the song, however, they seemed to have gained more clarity and realised just how toxic their ex-partner was in reality with Jerry Holmes singing; "You were just a pest / And now you won’t poison my youth".

Go-g-g-g-go-g-g-g-goin' on and on and on

I’ll admit you were the best
And I felt blessed
And lucky to be with you
Then that one day you called
And said we were through
I almost bawled
Because you were gone

At first I was lost
But then I stood on my feet
Then at last (I realized)
Life is so sweet (without you)
I’m going on
I’m moving on
I’m going on
I’m moving on
Without You

Every day is getting brighter
Without you
I just keep feeling lighter (Going On)
Without you
Life is just so perfect now
Without you
I never thought that I would be satisfied (Moving On)
Without you

At first I was lost
But then I stood on my feet
Then at last (I realized)
Life is so sweet (without you)
I’m going on
I’m moving on
I’m going on
I’m moving on
Without You

I thought you were the best
But now I know it’s far from the truth
You were just a pest
And now you won’t poison my youth

At first I was lost
But then I stood on my feet
Then at last (I realized)
Life is so sweet (without you)
I’m going on
I’m moving on
I’m going on
I’m moving on
Without You

I’m just going on
Without you
Yes I’m going on

Title: This Life
Genre(s): Pop, UKG, Electronic
Length: 4:04
Writer(s): D.Shaw, J.Holmes
Producer(s): Komi
Label: Studio 60 Records, heart&sleeve
From The Album: Ambition

INFORMATION

"This Life" is a song by American boyband The Stat Nerds. The song serves as the third bonus track, sixteenth and final overall, on their long-awaited debut album "Ambition". "This Life" was initially released on April 22, 2014 as a promotional only single thus becoming ineligible to chart. After the release of the #1 singles "Ready For The Weekend" and "Want Ur Love", the band were set to release the "Ambition" album in 2013. However, due to some internal disputes and Studio 60 Records believing that the rest of the material wasn't "strong enough" to follow up the chart-topping hits, the release was pushed back and the band began to work on revamping the album. "This Life" was the first offering from the 2014 sessions and was released as a free promotional track, serving as both a "gift" to fans for their wait as well as being a tester of the new material. The track was written by band members Dennis Shaw and Jerry Holmes. Production of the track was handled by British-Pakistani DJ and record producer Komi, who also produced the album's long-standing title track.

"This Life" is an electronic pop song and despite being sung by an American group, British producer Komi's touch comes to the forefront with a heavy UK Garage music influence driving the track. The underlying groove is heavily driven by a mid-tempo, shuffled drum that mimics 90s UK garage (UKG) and drum and bass rhythm structures. The high-energy clubbing rhythm of the song is offset, however, by the soulful vocal deliveries of the band. This prevents the track from sounding like typical electronic dance fodder, elevating it to a more substantial and poignant "dreamlike" mid-tempo pop ballad. "This Life" is also noted for the prominence of member Brian Bodkin throughout the track who, while still singing on every release, is considered to be the least utilised member of the band across their discography.

Lyrically, "This Life" was intentionally written to showcase a more "mature" side to the band following the mixed reception of breakout hit "Ready For The Weekend" and their team lacking belief in the rest of their recorded material. "This Life" is a self-aware, reflective track that looks at the bigger picture of life on Earth and mortality. The song expresses gratitude for the gift of life and encourages the listeners to stop, take a moment, and appreciate the beauty of what is around them - being thankful for having one's health and faculties as well as finding joy within the small details. "This Life" sees the group gain perspective when they feel like life is becoming too tough and overwhelming, reminding themselves and the listeners that a lot of it is all superficial and materialistic, that things shall soon pass. The central line of "let's live this life till we die" sums up the ethos of living life to the fullest and appreciating everything one has while it's still there.

The way I'm feeling now
Like my spirit is lifted some how
The sun's gold rays dancing
Has got me glancing
Past my window, through the light
I see it all, I see the beauty of this life

Life is a roller coaster, we it ride till we die
The sapphire ocean, mirroring the sky, sky so blue
And our all dreams start feel so true,
Dreams to be forever young
Dreams to be forever young

Live this life with me, lets move like the waves of the glistening sea
And if we really try, we'll touch the endless sky
Storms might block our way, but I know we'll find our way through.
This life, this light ! It's all worth the fight
Its a good life, no lie! So let's live this life till we die

La la lalalalala
La la lalalalala
La la lalalalala
La la lalalalala

Our lives pretty much the same,
No expectations, but we dance in the rain to escape the pain
Take my hand and dance with me
Drink to the point of ecstasy
Pain and suffrage, no longer apart of me
As I look past all the regret
I see it all, I see the beauty of this life in retrospect

Life is a roller coaster, we it ride till we die
The sapphire ocean, mirroring the sky, sky so blue,
And all our dreams start feel so true
Dreams to be forever young
Dreams to be forever young

Live this life with me, lets move like the waves of the glistening sea
And if we really try, we'll touch the endless sky
Storms might block our way, but I know we'll find our way through.
This life, this light ! It's all worth the fight
Its a good life, no lie! So let's live this life till we die

Throw your hands in the air and and ride it till it's done
The roller coaster of life, it's a blessing and a curse
The highs, the lows, loopholes and curbs
The ups and downs, then it reoccurs
Just throw your hands up and enjoy the ride
This life, This life, there's no where to hide

Live this life with me, lets move like the waves of the glistening sea
And if we really try, we'll touch the endless sky
Storms might block our way, but I know we'll find our way through.
This life, this light ! It's all worth the fight

OOC: Just want to say thank you to those of you who stuck around to read an incredibly old album. It was one I was extremely excited for at the time but sadly never got the release it deserved due to many, many factors over the years. There are a few tracks on here, namely "Out With A Bang" and "Thunder" that really spurred me on to push myself as a writer. Of course, over a decade on, I look back and still think they're rather basic but at the time I felt as if I had come on leaps and bounds from my initial way of writing. It was a labour of love finally getting this out. I had no idea I was undertaking such a big task when I decided to finally share the project. Lost songs, dead links to sound alikes, broken artworks, all the colour coding, wading through 250+ pages of my inbox and even tracking down a song that was released before I joined here! It was all worth it, though!

Special shoutout to Jaime/Famouss7x7 who created the bulk of this project alongside me. I know this wasn't the way we planned this to be released but with each year passing and member numbers dropping, I felt like it was a case of now or never. We spent too many LITERAL YEARS messaging each other back and forth about our little shared band, passing songs to and from each other for approval and building all sorts of storylines just for "Ambition" to never see the light of day. It may be 12 years later than initially intended but I hope I've done you and The Stat Nerds proud!

Would like to close this out by saying despite this being an old project, I've tried my best to make this more than just a copy and paste job. I purposely added a bunch of songs that were in my inbox that had never seen the light of day before so that there was some "new" material to read. All artwork has been remade and given a fresh lick of paint and each track's information section was written entirely from scratch over the weekend. This was to keep it fresh, easier to read and consistent as some previously posted songs had very different formatting when it came to the information sections. It's now more streamlined.

If you even bothered to read not only this but the entire thread of 16 songs, thank you so much! This feels like a personal victory, a huge weight off my shoulders and one big shiny tick next to a "to-do" item that has been lingering for literally well over a decade. It's finally out!

Big love,
Sean!

Maliah: More than ten year in the making, boys! It's taken a while, but it's so great to finally get to hear this album, it might not be how you envisioned it being done and along with the joy of the release there's also a bittersweet what could have been sort of feeling when I listen to this. But you've created total escapism within this album, it's a purely joyous pop album in the greatest sense. The entire album is perfect, but special shoutout to "Thunder" though, cause that one has my heart right now!

Christopher: Maliah! Thank you so much, my darling. I would say that it has been a labor of love but a good 70% of this journey has really just been us pulling their hair out of our collective heads, ha! There's more to the story than I think the world will ever know but alas, we got here in the end! Thank you for taking your time to check out our little album even if it is a fewwwww years overdue. Support after all this time really means the world. Oh, and you're sooooo right about "Thunder". The Pop Gods were using me as a vessel when that one was penned, ha!
