“When You Go Down” is the third single to be lifted from Adam Black’s second studio album “Mr Misunderstood” and serves as the follow up to the second single “Battled The Demons” shiv was released almost 2 years ago, it’s unclear why there was a pause with music releases by the 36 year-old but he looks set to pick back up right where he left off. The track was written by the 36 year-old and lyrically talks about getting pleased and pleasured orally, the track was produced by Stephen Lipson, Trevor Horn both of whom also produced his previous single, in terms of sound the track encompasses alternate rock, hard rock and funk rock…his previous single had a very subtle rock vibe but this track definitely has a much stronger rock presence and overall sound. The track has a total runtime of three minutes and thirty-seven seconds.
Critical reception for “When You Go Down” has been mostly positive. Eva Fairbanks of NME wrote in her review. “Who knew Adam had such a gritty vocals, this is a great follow up to his previous single, but is his new album going to be mostly rock based because if so the lead single “Vampire In The Night” seems exactly out of place, but I digress this is a banger and his younger brother Elyar should take notes from Adam on how to write a sexually charged song without being overtly explicit as it took me a few listens to realise the song is about getting head.” Eric Green wrote on his review. “Holy smokes, the rock genre really really suites Adams vocals his always had that gritty vocal and rock is perfect for that, people for get that his debut single all those years ago which was a tribute to his sister had a rock vibe also, this is a fantastic track I just hope we won’t have to wait almost two years for a potential fourth single or the album itself.” Jessie Rickman wrote in her review. “Okay hold my pearls this is by far the best song Adam has ever released and I will fight anyone who says otherwise, I am a sucker for rock music and this is all kinds of rock but also a little funky and fresh this has definitely made me excited for the album.” Connor Fletcher wrote in his review. “His like single was very subtle rock and pop rock, this new single is a full on rock anthem and I am totally here for it and boy the artwork for the single geez Adam looks all dark, moody and brooding, fantastic track all round” Freddy Smith wrote in his review in which he gave the song a solid 8.5/10. “Now I have to say I’ve never really been a fan of his previous music I mean his debut album was very jazzy and soulful, but his last single made me pay attention and now “When You Go Down.” Has definitely made me take notice the producers need there flowers because damn the production is fire, Adams vocals are also amazing here and really showcase that between him and his brother Elyar, Adam is by far the more vocally consistent of the two not that Elyar isn’t a great singer but this track by the older Black brother specifically shows that Adam has an amazing singing voice and to think he began his career as an actor and then as the infamous boyfriend of the nations sweetheart Dustyn Blue and now here he is years later singing an absolutely rock banger!”
