"Headboard Earthquake" is the lead single lifted from Elyar Black's third studio album which is rumoured to be title "Seduction Syndrome". "Headboard Earthquake" is set for release on March 16th 2026 and comes just five months after the release of the 33 year-olds second studio album "Self-Reflection" as well as five months after his last single "Funky, Sex & Magic" was released with both being released late last year in October. "Headboard Earthquake" musically is a blend of R&B, Hip-Hop and Crunk&B which signals a new genre direction for Elyar as he has prominently released pop music throughout his career having only dabbled in the urban genres previously however he has described this era as his urban era so we can only imagine that this entire album will be a full R&B, urban album. Lyrically the 33 year-old also returns to form and back to what made him a household name as lyrically the song talks about sex and more importantly his bedroom prowess with the lyrics referencing the headboard banging against the wall like an earthquake and the neighbours knowing his name because of how good in bed he is. In terms of production Elyar enlisted some up and coming urban producers in Mack Blackmore and Ca$h Adams who have worked with the 33 year-old exclusively on his third studio album. In terms of length the track has a total runtime of three minutes and two seconds.
Critical reception to "Headboard Earthquake" has been mixed to positive with most critics noting that the track is a return to the Elyar we are used to hearing on the radio whist also noting that this is the best his ever sounded vocally, however some noted that this track was a step backwards as some felt that singing about sex so blatantly was cool ten years ago when he first was around but now that his 33 many assumed he'd have matured especially after the majority of his second studio album was more mellow and was reflecting on his life and mistakes he'd made. Emily Edwards wrote in her review. "And his back the Elyar we all know and secretly love singing about his bedroom skills and sex what's not to love and oh my god the production is pure fire...Elyar needs to stick to this urban sound because this is quite possibly his best single to date and his best vocal delivery who cares if his singing about sex, sometimes we need a little spice and filth in our ears." Freddy Marsh wrote in his review. "How old is this guy again mid-30s and his still singing about sex and his manhood like dude we get it you are hung and good in bed no need to rub it in folks faces, rant aside about the lyrically content the track itself production wise is solid I think this sound really suites Elyar's voice and tone its honestly the best he has ever sounded its nice to hear him without so much auto-tune, so minus the lyrics this track is great and I can see his fans loving this one." AJ Hendricks wrote in his review. "Okay come through with this urban flava Mr Black, as a big fan of R&B and urban spice its refreshing to hear an urban track as there has been a serious drought in urban music in recent years and let's just take a moment to appreciate his vocals his always been know as a mediocre singer at best but this track shows that he actually can sing maybe the urban sound just suites his vocal range more because he sounds amazing on this track and I can't wait to see what else his been cooking up and given that his album is rumoured to be called "Seduction Syndrome" I can only imagine the era is going to be full of bangers that you can well bang too.". Jasmine James wrote in her review. "Gosh I need some water and a fan after hearing this one, I mean its no secret that Elyar is drop dead gorgeous and I can only imagine what his like in the sack and if this song is anything to go by I'd say his probably really good, but getting my mind out the gutter production for this song is honestly dope, we have been lately R&B on the radio and this song is a breath of fresh air and lyrically well it is spicy but it is Elyar Black his been known most of his career to sing about his penis and sex however his done it in a real nice way on this track, like ladies like me are gonna listen to this and picture us in bed with him, sorry but its true, overall a fantastic track though." James Mason wrote in his review. "I must say I love, love the production on this one and his vocals but seriously can we get at least one album from Elyar that does not so explicitly talk about sex and his manhood, after his last album which was a breath of fresh air after he focused more on his life and mistakes in love rather than sex itself, I thought we'd get more of that or a continuation of that but nope, new era and his right back to singing about sex and his penis like his some horny teenager not a man with a 10 year-old kid and in his mid-30s, but beggars can't be choosers I guess but even though I am disappointed by the lyrical content I can see this song going hard on playlists and radio so production and sound wise a solid track lyrically for me it just let's me down but I am sure many many of his fans old and new will love the overly explicit lyrics."
HEADBOARD EARTHQUAKEYou showed up in that old t-shirt
Hair tied but your eyes said more
You laughed when I locked that door
Said "What you think you’re lookin’ for?"
TV glow on your bare shoulders
Half a glass sittin’ on the floor
You pulled me down, pulled me closer
Said "You better give me what I came here for" (yeah)
My hand on your waist
You rise your nails in my back
Wild eyes you bite down
Tryna hold it inside
But you can’t hide, you can’t hide
You got the headboard shakin’ like an earthquake
Neighbors know my name, hear your voice break
You say "Don’t stop, don’t stop just stay right there"
Every breath every word in the heavy air
You got the wall tappin’ out like it can’t take
Body on my body let the world shake
You scream so loud you forget your own name
While the bed beats time on the wall like a drum in the flame
You flip over on all fours, lookin’ back
Tell me "Slow then deep"
That little arch in your spine
Got me swearin’ I’ma never let you sleep
Pillow fallin’ off the edge now
Sheets twisted like they tryin’ to run
You laugh but it melts to a moan
When I hit that spot and your whole body jumps (oh)
You grab at the frame
It bangs your voice climbs
Higher then hangs
You try to muffle that sound
But it still comes out, still comes out
You got the headboard shakin’ like an earthquake
Neighbors know my name, hear your voice break
You say "Don’t stop, don’t stop just stay right there"
Every breath every word in the heavy air
You got the wall tappin’ out like it can’t take
Body on my body let the world shake
You scream so loud you forget your own name
While the bed beats time on the wall like a drum in the flame
You say
"Harder, harder"
I say "Say my name"
You spell it out in broken sighs
Scratchin’ letters down my frame
You push back I pull you
Caught between lust and light
That rhythm slammin’ through the room
Like we arguin’ with the night (oh yeah)
You got the headboard shakin’ like an earthquake
Neighbors know my name, hear your voice break
You say "Don’t stop, don’t stop just stay right there"
Every breath every word in the heavy air
You got the wall tappin’ out like it can’t take
Body on my body let the world shake
You scream so loud you forget your own name
While the bed beats time on the wall like a drum in the flame
Last round
Sweat on your collarbone
Heart still racin’ phones still blown
You kiss my neck whisper "That was insane"
And the headboard gives one last knock
Like it knows my name (yeah)
