atomic_erich:i hate to say it like this....but,people from outside the south dont understand the rebel flag. for a great many people,it doesnt represent the slavery era south. its become like guy fawkes. a figurehead that represents something larger than previously intended. guy fawkes was a religious extremist,but has since become a symbol of anarchy. the confederate flag means the southern culture, which includes southern black culture.which in turn,is really just southern culture. yes,some people use it to symbolize the kkk and the jim crow era. like it or not, the south is a culture apart from the rest of the nation. thats what i see the rebel flag as. im married to a germanic jewish woman and was married to a japanese woman,i think its safe to say i am not a white supremacist. would i fly the confederate flag? no. should it be flown over government buildings? no. but to a lot of people,it isnt racist in nature. |
