QueenAlexis: Mandy Williams streams her long awaited album The Teenage Years today and after listening although I am not completely blown away, this lil white girl impressed me at some points. Mandy can sometimes be known as the 'lesser' Isabel in some eyes lmfaooo and although people may pick their favorites Mandy could be a serious competitor if she got her album out earlier!!! But hey, she had a good excuse didn't she? She was clearing things up in her personal life with her crazy ass father and I'm happy she cleared that all up. Mandy that took a REALLY long time. But anywho, she got her shit together and released two semi good singles that actually convinced me to give her a chance even though Forever Mine is the better track then Teenagers [she was doing too much with that but it had a good beat]. But with this album, I wont lie, there are some teen pop gems on the record. Mandy doesn't really push any boundaries on the album and that is fine tbh, she would make a disaster of herself imo if she ever tried but the album has its high points. It alsooo has its low points too. Sometimes Mandy gets toooo generic. Songs like We're Killin It and Teenagers are just cheesy for me to fathom, I like when she's actually singing moving tunes like Forever Mine, No Regrets, What Is There Left To Say (arguably the best song on the album), Memories No More, New Perspectives among her older tunes that still fit this time period. We're Killin It is a trainwreck and just an album filler. And all though I see what she was going for with Teenagers, she was just trying too too hard that it came off a bit funny. The bonus tracks were a group of songs from her earlier days and it shows that she has grown vocally since well, those songs sound like demos if you will. All in all, I am in no way BLOWN AWAY by Mandy's effort, but I like where she's got going and there are some good dance pop and urban influenced songs for that her group of young fans will love. (she calls her fans cookies wtf?) And shes gotten back on the map, but will it last? Will be interesting to see if she will stay afloat for years to come, she might have it in her. [3/5] |
